STEP 1: CONNECTORS

Something that is really important when you write a text is to use CONNECTORS. It is important to say when events happened and the order of events (To start off, next, after…). Moreover, it is also very important the subjective point of view: sometimes you want to express surprise or disguise or some feelings in a story. (unexpectedly, surprisingly, unfortunately…). Here you have a list of connectors that may help order/ sequence you story

STEP 2:   NARRATIVE SENTENCES.

Do you remember why we use past continuous and past simple in the same sentence?

I was strolling along the beach one day when suddenly, Bonnie ran off.

We often use the past simple and past continuous together when one action interrupts another.

Do you remember when we use the past simple and when the past perfect?

I quickly realised that the storm the previous night had washed up the body.

We can use the past perfect with the past simple together in a sentence to describe an action that happened before another past action.

In case you have further doubts, here you can find an explanation as well as some exercises to practice.

STEP 3: STRUCTURE
1st paragraph: Opening: The main characters, when and where the story takes place
2nd/3rd ..,paragraphs: Body: You have to explain the plot
Last paragraph: how everything was solved

Some tips you must take into account while writing your story:

You can use the direct speech: “Wait!” he shouted. “What is your problem” he asked me.

Description: use adjectives. It was a cold day, I felt very uncomfortable

Use verbs of action: I rushed off, I sat down, I started to run

Finish your story with an unexpected event.

STEP 4: WRITE YOUR OWN STORY
